Today in 1916 was start of the Südtirol Offensive, or Strafexpedition. The Austro-Hungarians attacked the Italians with infantry and 2,000 artillery guns along a 50 km front. They breached the center of the Italian defenses and pushed for the Asiago plateau towards Vicenza.
