Forging a new way, a different way, an opposite-to-what-we-grew-up-with way— in parenting, in partnership, in recovery— can be hard and scary and lonely. But it continues to be so worth it. I’m feeling exceptionally lucky & loved today. It can be both. It can be all of it.🖤

On aging & changing & thinking lines & crows feet: I'm working on reframing how I think about my own lines & scars. All they say is "look at how long I've survived." Life has not always been kind, but I'm still here— living & loving & in recovery. It's all kind of a miracle.

I have fought for every day— every hour— of this. 18 months of eating disorder recovery. It almost doesnt feel real. But this is real. You’re not alone if you’re struggling with something that feels insurmountable. Recovery is possible. Even here, even now. It is not too late.

Staying small & quiet won't keep us safe. Not ultimately. Not as a lifestyle. The young "parts" of us that want us to hide & be quiet don't understand the toll that takes on our self-esteem & quality of life. They need us to hold & comfort them as we learn to take up space.

Your body is not the enemy. I promise you it isn't. Your body-- much like your mind & your spirit-- is injured & trying to defend & even heal itself. It needs your gentle attention, understanding, & support, not judgment or neglect. Easy does it.

The best thing we can do to realistically support the people we love in getting their sh*t together is to get our own sh*t together-- that is, relate to our feelings & decisions & past w/ compassion, perspective, & fairness. We don't have to be perfect to be good role models.

A little reminder that you are not too much or too loud or too weird or too needy or too awkward or too sensitive or too whattheheckever. The right people will love the hell out of you just the way you are.

I don't get a lot of mileage out of "gratitude" rituals, except one: expressing gratitude toward my younger self, who got me though sh*t I will never fully tell anyone about. That kid deserves one of the medals the Rebels were handing out at the end of "Star Wars."
