“The Beatific Vision is what happens when the eternity in our hearts becomes the eternity in our eyes.” Junius Johnson, The Father of Lights: A Theology of Beauty

When I started my dissertation a year ago, I wrote this prayer for myself and hung it up by my computer. I’ve prayed it hundreds of times, and it has been answered hundreds of times. God loves our small prayers.

If we could see the extent of the church as she gathers today—the billions, the colours, the outfits, the range of languages and liturgies—it would be beyond our imagination. She is glorious. And she reflect the glory of an even more magnificent Saviour. Happy Lord’s Day!

Today at Southern Seminary, my wonderful wife, Chessa Williams, successfully defended her dissertation, “Worship as Witness: The Subject and the Glory of God.” Congratulations Chessa! I’m so proud of you!

I got to hold a bound copy of my wife’s dissertation before she returns home from a trip. A reminder to me of God’s undeserved faithfulness to my family and the extraordinary industriousness of Chessa Williams. I’m so proud of you, love!

On the power of the imagination: “To me, imagination is key to morality. If you can’t imagine what it is to live in someone else’s head, then you’re more likely to hurt them.” –Michael Chabon (via Mary McCampbell, "Imagining Our Neighbors as Ourselves: How Art Shapes Empathy")

If you subordinate the Son, there are devastating consequences for our communion with God. Subordination compromises our salvation, says Michael Reeves.

If the Son submits from eternity anyway, the gospel is robbed of its punch. EFS (eternal functional subordination) steals away the scandal of it all. The Son so humbled himself that he learned obedience by what he suffered. - Matthew Barrett Watch Q/A from Credo Conference!

How should we leave a worship service? John Witvliet says the question isn’t “Did I like the music?” It’s “Did the music help me to pray?” It’s a shift from consumerism to communion.

God’s goal for his people is not merely that they might be saved, but that they might be glorified, that the dust of the earth might one day be like the stars above.
