I'm Will Fassbender. I am an assistant professor of English Education at Montana State University, but I'm on vacation in Wilmington, NC at the moment. Excited to be participating in/hosting my first #literacies chat!

A1: So happy to join all of you in thinking about these ideas. I’ve been thinking about AI and media #literacies as two separate strands of thinking that I think we’re soon going to see as closely entwined, especially as we head toward the 2024 election.

A2: I’ve been convinced that media #literacies are less about the rational faculties that people possess in determining fact from fiction with media and more about how to address the affective dimensions of polarizing info that people *want* to believe, but is clearly false.

A3: In our article (listed in the Q), Brad Robinson, Ph.D. and I think about different “actors” and how they play a role in the response to “digital dismisinfo.” We were shocked by how much money flows to media nonprofits from platforms and then seems to just…circulate #literacies

A4: I am most intrigued by how teachers are going to make the turn from AI as a tool for cheating to using it as a "cheat code" for their own planning and instruction...and where they draw the line ethically for how to use it (especially around feedback) #literacies

A5: Generative AI generates media and it is something to account for in the years to come. I’m concerned about #surveillancecapitalism and how AI platforms might hoover data to tailor content to our own preferences/biases, particularly heading into the 2024 election #literacies
