Massive. This potentially locks in 3 seats for TPM. Labour knows they won’t get Waiariki back and are vulnerable in TTH and this completely changes Ikaroa-Rawhiti teaomaori.news/meka-whaitiri-…

My friends in high places (who winter over in the tropics) have arrived. Just heard their gorgeous call. Phenomenal for such a little bird to fly from Solomon Is to NZ. Shining cuckoo. Now they’re on the look out for warbler mums with whom they can dump their offspring. Rude!

Energy Minister Simeon Brown at #NZQT just said hundreds of workers at Winstone Pulp have lost their jobs. That’s breaking news if it’s true. I understood they were merely carrying out maintenance work while the mills were not operating for 2 weeks. No talk of lay-offs.

Devastating news for Ohakune, Raetihi, Waiouru and Taihape with the impending mill closures. Thinking of the workers we met last week outside the Tangiwai mill and especially one father of four we talked to who was really into his job and loved his community. Q+A

This very last patch of remnant beech forest in the Hutt Valley is due for the chop this week in what protestors are calling a chainsaw massacre. It is at the insistence of an Upper Hutt property developer as the road leads to his development. Council approved.

Darleen Tana is refusing to resign, but do they have any legal options to prevent being waka-jumped out of parliament? Full story here: tvnz.co.nz/shows/q-and-a/…

At the risk of being yet another person who insufferably connects them self on SM with a famous person who has just died, Dame Maggie was in NZ to perform an Alan Bennett monologue in 2004, I interviewed her and I will never forget the experience. #DameMaggieSmith

Managed to get across the Strait. Slamming into the 3 metre swell was exhilarating. Aratere & Kaiarahi crews were terrific. Weather delays are v frustrating but Interislander online info is good I thought. All up, an efficient service across the watery bit of State Highway 1.

Well that was buzzy. RNZAF C130 Hercules farewell fly-over Wellington just now. Loved flying in them despite the toilet arrangement. Short runway take-offs and landings particularly thrilling. As they say, thank you for your service.
