I am filing a series of sunshine law requests for documents from UF Chancellor, UF Provost, FL Gov, and FL AG to determine the level of political coordination behind this brazen attack on academic freedom and voting rights in Florida. More soon.

As a former vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty I completely agree. The dean and provost have failed in their fundamental duty to protect the integrity of academic freedom (and for scholars defending voting rights no less). Rescind this absurd decision. Now.

Another take on VA: Republican won in a state that has on-line registration, on-line mail-in ballot application, extensive early voting locations, drop boxes at all early voting locations, and ID affirmation requirement (rather than actual ID). No need to restrict these anywhere.

Here's what the headline should read: "Donald Trump endangered Joe Biden's life in the 2020 presidential election (oh, and almost killed Chris Christie as well....)" nytimes.com/2021/12/01/us/…

We mourn the passing of Robert Jervis, a giant in the field of international relations. His ideas and mentorship have influenced countless scholars and will continue to do so. The Columbia political science department has published an obituary polisci.columbia.edu

Facts from late 2020 that remain facts at the end of 2021: 81,268,924 > 74,216,154; 306 > 232; more than 100 lawsuits and zero/zero evidence of voter fraud or manipulation.

I am mentoring a couple of search committees through #academia hiring practices today, and how to hire diverse faculty (which I have been fairly successful doing). It's not hard, but there are some guidelines search committees will want to follow. a thread

Adam Przeworski wrote on the transitions in Eastern Europe and Latin America that "Democracy is a system in which parties lose elections." Failure by one party to accept defeat is, by definition, the end of democracy.

Remember: 27 states adjusted 2020 election procedures (starting in the spring primaries) because of Covid, including 12 states that supported TX v. PA et al. but Republican objections focused only on six battle ground states lost by Trump and only after the Nov. election.

In the next week, every US Senator and Representative should be on record on this simple question: How long (in minutes) should any American voter have to wait in line to cast a ballot?

Core elements of democracy: losers agree to accept losing an election and compete again in the future and winners agree to win and not change the rules. We are seeing a direct attack on both: Trump refusing to accept his loss and Rep. state legislatures changing the rules.
