The approach to #conservation in Africa needs to change. We need more Africans joining the conservation efforts and working with #localcommunities to battle misconceptions . Read more on the attached opinion peace drafted by Gladys K Zikusoka from CTPH bit.ly/3lIZHKw

Our new nationwide campaign "Chimpanzee National Animal Awareness & Protection Campaign" will officially take off in January 2022, but we already introduced the campaign to several organizations during a Happy Hour in #Freetown last month.  Video by FryFry Media 🙌

Do protected areas effectively conserve species populations? Our paper out today in nature tries to answer this really important question. nature.com/articles/s4158…

In Comoé NP, Côte d'Ivoire #chimpanzees mostly use forests. The previous study noted that there probably isn't a population of the #chimp east of Comoé River in SW #Park, but our #cameratrap proved that there is indeed a population SE of Comoé River, along Iringou River. #ape

How much do we value nature reserves and national parks, the heart of our conservation efforts? This much: "global protected area spending is estimated at US$ 24.3 billion/year, the size of the global beard grooming industry" Ref: frontiersin.org/articles/10.33… Dr Charlie Gardner (also on the blue place)

Did you know that male Chimps stay within their natal group? Yes, they do. Female Chimps are the ones who leave their natal group when they reach sexual maturity. renato_granieri_photography #Salone4Chimps’22 #Chimpanzee #SalonePride #SierraLeone #National #Animal #Campaign

Stumbled upon this gem of a paper dispelling claims by animal behaviorists why they can't fully engage in conservation. I'd take it further and say many behaviorists believe they *do* engage, but these excuses still prevent actual *effective* engagement! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
