Adante and Khristopher Nicholas, PhD did just have to explain what Publix was to Allison Maria Lacko on the last episode (who still doesn't get it and Publix is only 15 miles away - WHO drives 40 miles to get groceries?! Whyyy, grocery shopper you have so much to live for closer to home)

Also love this quote: "I’m not the first to say this, but food is an amazing, incredible organizing instrument. Everybody eats. Because everybody eats, there’s room for an important conversation to take place." @thegardengriot is full of gems 😉 and everyone should read her book

Were the people who grew your food - or brought it to you or cooked it - were they treated right? We touch on this in our last episode, taking about the share of your food dollar that actually makes it back to growers. Do you think an economic justice label would work?

Over here in grad school too. Food security is a real problem for all students, esp if you've got a family and are trying to pay for health insurance ON TOP of tuition and expenses (expand Medicaid NC, plz thx). Why do you think we'll attend any event for free food

Hey fam! We're wrapping up our pilot season (last episode featuring Adante's interview with Zwelis dropping soon) In the meantime, we need your help! What's have you learned? How's the length of the episodes? The grocery bag? What can we improve? #TuesdayThoughts

We talk about fair-labor labels in our last episode, bc we were surprised at how little of your food 💵 gets back to growers. Maybe labels could help. #foodjustice #SocialJustice #farmworkers Check out episode 6!

Take your pick: Should we cover more news? Would you be annoyed if we ate food on the show? Do we use too much jargon? What do you want to know from our guests? We need your help to make the podcast better 😁 reply or DM us

It's too simplistic to view charity as just a "band-aid." Charity is important, but it's a problem when it becomes part of the system itself. We must fight for equity and justice - in the food system and in all systems. #socialjustice #foodjustice

It's confusing AF even for us and we study nutrition! To add another layer check this out: Marion Nestle talks about how pervasive industry-funded research is around eggs and cholesterol (and all foods) in her book #UnsavoryTruth, it's a fascinating read

While we finalize our last episode, we're sharing some other podcasts: This episode about #community organizing & #spirituality is so powerful, esp asking how we name strong, demanding love in public and use it to build collective power #socialjustice #MondayMotivation

Today's podcast rec: soil health and public health. Fascinating convo about why all doctors also have to be ecologists and why the biodiversity we can't see (and therefore don't think about) in the soil and your gut is so important

Today's podcast rec, #gravypodcast from Southern Foodways Alliance, packs a ton into a short episode: the responsibility that comes with privilege, how food gets in to your body, culture and community. AND when you're done, check out Sharon Turshen and her podcast and general awesomeness 😎

Today's #TBT podcast is Latino USA's #NAFTA episode. It really makes you think. Ex: post-NAFTA, a rural village gets its road paved. It's FIRST vehicle was a Coca-Cola truck. So pregunta: why can't we stick some broccoli in a Coke truck to leverage their distribution system?

Those of us working on sustainable agriculture should remember that one aspect of sustainability is justice, and there has been decades of discrimination against black farmers in the US. Reparations should be part of a sustainable agriculture agenda newfoodeconomy.org/usda-black-far…

Happy #FoodJusticeFriday. What is your root in the #foodjustice movement? I will add an anti-capitalism root to this and also a environmental justice root map next to it.
