A lot of doom and gloom articles in the press about how the CS major has become a bad choice. I see zero evidence for it in the Cornell data. CS grads still command some of the highest starting salaries and best employment rates.

Did you know? UT Austin's Main Building design was partly inspired by the Camden, New Jersey City Hall. UT Architect Paul Cret watched the building go up from his Philadelphia office while working on the Tower, and had been a professor of the City Hall's architect.

Netflix Tudum drops CQRS Architecture & eventual consistency and replaces it with strong read-after-write consistency for improved user experiences. CQRS & NoSQL communities have been pushing eventual consistency too much in the past. Consistency at scale is easier than ever.

Many academics had alternate former careers. Perhaps the coolest is roboticist Professor Missy Cummings at GMU, who flew the F-18 Hornet before doing her PhD. She became a USN fighter pilot shortly after the Combat Exclusion Policy was repealed, allowing women to pilot in 1993.

My students called the new CDIS building “state-of-the-art”. I thought they were exaggerating. Today I moved in and saw it for myself. Wow. Photos cannot capture the beauty of the design.
