This week, Chris (Hwanhee) Kim presented journal club on an excellent Cryo-ExM paper by Marine Laporte @CentrioleLab (Nat Meth 2022). Fascinating work combining cryofixation & freeze-substitution with expansion microscopy! Has anyone had a chance to try it yet? doi.org/10.1038/s41592…

Awesome new protocols paper from VaughanLabUW detailing FLARE stains for cleared-tissue and super-resolution microscopy. A real treat to look at these with light-sheet microscopy. nature.com/articles/s4159…

At our most recent Journal Club, we discussed an interesting cellular senescence paper by the Ferenbach lab Chemistry Edinburgh (Sci Transl Med 2021). Fascinating work with targeting senescent cells to aid in renal regeneration after injury or aging in mice! doi.org/10.1126/scitra…

For #FluorescenceFriday we are delighted to share that our FLARE stains made it into the cover of Nature Protocols! Kudos to former grad students Min Yen and Chenyi. Link to the protocol here: doi.org/10.1038/s41596…

Many congratulations to Adam Glaser and Jonathan Liu and collaborators for this fantastic paper in Nature Methods just out! An incredible amount of data with all kinds of samples. Check it out!

Its probably difficult to see the 6 organelles above so here is a pairwise montage of them (a very useful visualisation tool for more than 4 fluorophores by James Manton ) Each row and column represents a biological target and the images display the interaction between them.

Our paper introducing PK Mito Orange (PKMO) has finally been published. It was a great pleasure to work together with Tianyan Liu on this project. Wonderful collaboration between Zhixing Chen and JakobsLab! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… #mitochondria #STED

Josh was excited to catch up with his PhD mentor Prof. Keith Nelson (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)) when he visited UW to deliver the 2023 Paul C. Cross lecture in Physical Chemistry and with Vaughan group alumna Dr. Min Yen Lee (PhD, 2020) who now works at Illumina in Singapore.

Thanks so much to our collaborators at IU Nephrology and Hypertension for hosting us this week!

Post-doc Chetan Poudel presenting on full kidney imaging at the Seattle Spatial Biology at Scale Symposium! @biofizzycist UWChemistry #kidneyresearch #lightsheetmicroscopy

Great job to Yvonne, Benjamin, and Siying for their poster presentations at the UW Undergraduate Research Symposium! They effectively communicated their work with studying lineage bias, telomere shortening, and glomerular cell typing, respectively. UWChemistry
