Had a fab time IMC_Leeds and to cap it all a lovely chat with Mark Kacar on train home. A truly memorable week. Thank you Dr Matt Firth Dr Alexander Thomas @H_Boston15 and all. See u next year!!!

With thanks to Mark Kacar I have just tried out AI and have a title for a course on the barbarians ‘From Goths to Mongols: A Horde-able History’. It’s mind-blowing and rather scary!

Saw the amazing David Sedaris last night. Couldn’t stay in queue for signing books - 3 hour wait. We were literally at the back of the queue and had to give up! Would like to think he sells discarded clothes in charity shop – would head there from Kent!

Putting this tin on a high shelf is a crafty attempt by Robert Baughan to make sure I don’t get any of the cake that I made!

Has Birkbeck, University of London been cyber attacked? It doesn’t seem to have been any access to emails or phones since Sunday.

This little place was great. Basic but really local. The aqueduct of Valens is in the background. Lentil soup next to nothing in price was delicious. Very friendly Bettany Hughes💙

Good news Internet archive appears to be up and working again Dominic Selwood

Taking a leaf out of Charlie Rozier book I’m am leaving X now I realise there is an alternative. I hope that anyone who follows me here we will be happy to follow me @vanessaking1066.bsky.social

Sadly, perhaps it is time for English National Opera to close. The Colosseum has never sorted their acoustics. We paid £500, to sit in the stalls and struggled to hear the words. That is poor. The building is not fit for purpose. Why can’t the singers wear individual mics?

I’m delighted to say my article on Cynethryth and Aethelswith, queens of Mercia has been published with open access Royal Studies Network Medievalists.net Louise J. Wilkinson cambridge.org/core/journals/…

The National Gallery Siena exhibition is beautiful but a nightmare when using audio guide. The signage as to galleries is non-existent. Forget the guide and enjoy the artefacts.
