TUNA. ~ Have you ever bought tuna thinking it was fresh because it was bright red? Sadly, tuna that has a candy color isn’t because it’s fresh, but because it was shot with carbon monoxide (often at the source, aka… instagram.com/p/B7b-Y9Cllak/…

Perspective: it’s socially acceptable to drag a fish by the mouth only for our entertainment, but not to kill it to feed ourselves 🤔

No industry -- not airlines, not hotels, not cruise ships -- should be bailed out. They can stay in business by borrowing at rock-bottom rates, using their assets as collateral. Taxpayer money should be used to bail out people, not corporations.

For the most part of my life, it never crossed my mind to be “self-sufficient” when it came to food. Why would it? I always had a grocery store near by and I never had to question availability of provisions. In… instagram.com/p/B993A-MFanD/…

"Tiny, little actions—such as buying a can of tuna—can make a difference in the world." Last year on #WorldTunaDay, we took fearless spearfisher Valentine Thomas to the Marshall Islands to learn from the world's largest sustainable tuna fishery. What she found surprised her.

In this short podcast, we discuss my transition from spearfishing to land hunting, the emotional struggles behind it and the importance of our connection with nature. Link in @bloodorigins bio! instagram.com/p/CSeZwmSrDBI/…

#ad I’m a big fan of concrete actions when it comes to ocean conservation. And I finally found a truly guilt free straw! It’s marine biodegradable (in in just a matter of months!), home and industrial compostable. It’s made out of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate, fermented canola oil!)

As I know I’ll make a lot of people pretty mad by sharing facts instead of emotional boosted click-bait crap, hello Twitter :)

What sustainable even means? No one asks ever today. Well “Sustainable management” relates to maximum sustainable yield (MSY). That is the largest average catch that can be captured from a stock under existing environmental conditions - to keep the population abundant.

Valentine Thomas (@valentinethomas) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Put more simply it means that you’re fishing in a way that future generations will be able to enjoy the same resource, forever.

Valentine Thomas (@valentinethomas) 's Twitter Profile Photo

How much of the world’s catch is sustainably caught 82,5% of total fish landed around the world are considered sustainable. An increase of 3.8% since 2017. 64.6% of the total amount of fisheries are considered sustainable. Those fisheries are calculated regardless of abundance.

Valentine Thomas (@valentinethomas) 's Twitter Profile Photo

STOP WITH THE HYPERBOLE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. A popular statistic (*cough cough WWF*) is that 85% of the world fisheries have been pushed or beyond their biological limits. Which is misleading.

Stocks that are fished at Maximum Sustainable Yield (see slide 1), isn't a negative thing. To improve the status of our oceans, we must deal in truth and science and stop with the shock and awe (click-bait science).
