A glorious day in the Madonie, where we explored both platform and deep water Mesozoic limestones, and major normal and thrust faults. All under lapis skies, pines swaying and the beeches budding, asphodels, wild garlic, nuthatches and chiffchaffs and wrens all around. Earth Sciences at the University of Manchester

This was fun: walking barefoot on Etna pāhoehoe lavas (Boris Behncke made me try it) and pondering how to achieve these ropey flow textures when they’re stuffed full of megacrysts (“cicirara” lavas). A rheal rheological puzzle for Earth Sciences at the University of Manchester

An extraordinary climb to the desolate upper slopes of Mt Etna. We explored the vents and products of the 2001 and 2002-03 flank eruptions. Huge volcanic bombs, scoria cones, vast lava fields. The Southeast Crater perched on its slope, still hundreds of metres above us. Amazing.

This is what an accessible workplace looks like. One that takes the time to understand how difficult it is to be a wheelchair-using scientist & to not worry about the costs of making life easier. Thank you The University of Manchester, Earth Sciences at the University of Manchester & Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, this means the world to me I❤️🐝🦽

Last year I was really privileged to be asked to write about the intersectionality of being gay & disabled. People ask why #PrideMonth is so important, & it’s because we have only just begun our journey towards equality The University of Manchester Earth Sciences at the University of Manchester Manchester Institute of Biotechnology

A fossil Beaded #Lacewing (Berothidae) from the Cretaceous of Britain. These are not present in Britain today with modern species mainly found in tropical & subtropical areas. Little is known of their ecology, the few where larvae are known are predators of termites #FossilFriday
