GER/SCAN 220M: From Kierkegaard to Kafka will examine works of existentialism in fiction, discussing "existentialism" as a philosophy of radical freedom and radical self-responsibility. This class will look at fiction, philosophy and film by Danish, German, and French authors.

The Holocaust and its Representations will examine questions of the Holocaust in fiction, memoir, and multi-media formats. Enroll to learn about German and Jewish history, racism, violence, human strengths and weaknesses, and the ideologies that produce scapegoating mechanisms.
