In a UK study of 5.16M pregnancies (2000–2021), autoimmune disease in pregnancy rose from 3.5% to 4.7%. IBD was the 2nd most prevalent autoimmune condition after psoriasis. Autoimmune risk was higher in ex-smokers, multiparas, and women with mental or metabolic comorbidities.

I would be curious as to whether: ☑️This is just a reflection of increased prevalence of IBD in the UK (0.8% 2020, ⬆️ from 2000) ☑️Changing reproductive behaviour among women with IBD where more are healthy enough to conceive and/or are given supportive preconception counseling.

Between alarms and sheltering, I learned last night that my postdoc mentor, Professor Atul Butte Atul Butte, has passed away, and he is only 55 years old. This is devastating news 💔. Atul was a giant in so many ways. He was a visionary leader in translational bioinformatics

There are few in this world who were such forces for good as Atul Butte. His dazzling intellect, relentless curiosity, generosity of spirit, boundless charisma, and infinite optimism left a mark on everything he touched and everyone lucky enough to know him. An enormous loss.
