1. My top imaging trick to trainees is that before they spend any time taking pictures of the data they just sit there for a while & look at the stuff. Like seriously, sit back, crank some tunes, get cozy & spend some quality time with your slides.

I keep reminding PhD students that THE most important outcome of a PhD is not their publications, conferences, awards etc., but they themselves after this journey. PhD is a learning process in how to learn new things, solve new problems you run into. Voices of Indian Academia Biopatrika

My hot take for the day is that having a couch for people to take naps on is as essential a lab's ability to function as any pricey & fancy lab equipment they might have. Science is thinking work & the best thinking is done by properly rested minds.

So often the thorns of academia get limelight over the perks! Apropos a conversation with Sriram Varahan , where else do you get paid to (1) formulate YOUR ideas, rally a team to test it and relish the data ๐Ÿ“Š, whatever it is! (2) You can read all day and drown in it and come

1. This summer I've been thinking a lot about "cognitive load" which is term that has multiple definitions but for me means something like "the amount of processing, analysing, thinking, & deciding I can do in a day before my brain stops working" here's a short thread about that

1. I feel like this is such obvious advice that it's taken for granted & so no one says this to young scientists but READ PAPERS, read all the papers. As you move up in your career you'll have a lot less time to do this. Read everything that appeals to you not just in your field

As I finish my internship in the SCTH lab at ACTREC, under the guidance of Rohan Khadilkar and mentorship of Ujjayita Chowdhury. It was a journey full of learning and growth. This experience has sparked the passion in me for the research immensely. Very thankful for this opportunity. ๐Ÿค—

Umfortunately, science has lost freedom, you will be suffocated and choked till a point, you are no more capable of free thinking...

The goal of a PhD is not to learn some facts or read a few papers or learn a bunch of techniques. The goal of a PhD is to learn independence, problem solving, how to finish things you start, resilience, & gain the ability to adapt & think creatively. Learning these things is hard
