Update: At least 22 volunteers who fought against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq joined the Ukrainian conflict since 2014; 12 in 2022 alone. A minumum of ten are still there, some on the frontlines and some helping with medical/humanitarian work at the border.

So. Two, but perhaps three, former YPG volunteers who are now in Ukraine formed a group or a unit to conduct humanitarian work and military operations, and to provide military training to Ukrainians. However, I don't who they report to. Their name: Dark Angels.

I had a great time chatting about my book with nam kiwanuka on TVO Today | The Agenda : youtube.com/watch?v=-oxh2f… I was drawn towards Ed Cecil-Smith's story as commander of the Mac-Paps in Spain because it felt all too familiar to today, more so since it came out.

This was a fun project. I contributed a chapter on the International Brigades and the 1938 Aragon Offensive in the Spanish Civil War and cannot wait to read the others. Hats off to our amazing and hard-working editors, Tim and Walker.
