Learning all things chicken development at #EGGED2024 - some fantastic transgenic lines available at the The Roslin Institute! Kasia Milto from the lab successfully mastering ex ovo culture 🥚

Failure! (1) During #egged2024, the most frequent comment from attendees, was that it was really useful watching me fail. Even after nearly 30 years of chicken embryology I still fail to open an egg correctly every time, place a bead, graft in tissues….

Failure (2) @#egged2024 …I think failure is part of the scientific process. At least, it’s part of mine! But mostly you don’t see the trial and error, failure, trouble shooting, infertile eggs, novel equipment set-ups, that go into successful experiments.

Failure (3) @#egged2024 The only real failure, is not learning how to improve a process. Most ‘failed’ experiments are not failure, just a step towards getting it right.

Failure (4) @#egged2024 So I’m really pleased that #egged2024 had a ‘real life in the lab’ vibe. We had some conference failures too- notably not enough food at the Brainstorming Evening - solved by £150 pizza (pizza solves everything)….

Failure (6)and Recovery @#egged2024 The best fail was accidentally throwing away Alberto Rosello-Diez manipulated eggs at the last moment of EGGED Experts yesterday 😱. Thankfully I managed to recover them from the eggy soup in the waste bag!

So pleased we could support Prof. Stephanie Lindsey Kasia Milto with caring grants from The Genetics Society EMBO EMBO Events to attend #egged2024. This was probably the highlight moment for me being instructed by marianne bronner injecting dye into 8HH chick head mesenchyme. Awesome.

Tat-cre beads implanted into the hindbrain of a chameleon embryo for #egged2024. And yes, this works well in culture! Thank you everyone for a fantastic week The Roslin Institute NARF EMBO Events
