The Social Democrats have emerged in first place in Iceland, where the parties of the outgoing Government lost a combined 18 seats. A coalition will need to be formed to reach the 32 seats needed for a majority in the 63 seat Althing.

Fianna Fáil has emerged as the largest party in Ireland, where it is likely their existing coalition with Fine Gael will continue for another five years. The two parties are two seats short of the 88 required to form a majority government in the Dáil Éireann.

The government of French PM Michel Barnier has been toppled in a confidence vote in the National Assembly. The vote was supported by the leftist New Popular Front coalition, the far-right National Rally, and the centre-right UDR. Michel Barnier will now need to resign.

Former Ghanian President John Mahama has been elected to a second, non-consecutive term, defeating incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. Mahama served as Ghana's President from 2012 to 2017, losing re-election in 2016. He also lost the 2020 election.

Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been impeached and suspended by the National Assembly. The 2nd attempt was successful after 12 lawmakers from the ruling People Power Party supported the vote. Korea's Constitutional Court will now decide if Yoon should be removed from office.

The government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been defeated in a confidence vote in the Bundestag. The votes comes after the collapse of the SPD-Green-FDP coalition. An early election will now be held on the 23rd of February, 2025.

Coalition Negotiations have been completed and a Government has been formed between the Social Democratic Alliance, Liberal Reform, and People's parties. Social Democratic leader Kristrun Frostadottir has been sworn in as the 33rd Prime Minister of Iceland.

With the resignation of Justin Trudeau early this morning, these are the top six contenders to replace him according to local media. Polling suggests none of these candidates can defeat Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre at the election scheduled for later this year.

Croatian President Zoran Milanović has emerged in first place in the first round of Croatia's Presidential Election. The second round between Milanović and HDZ candidate Dragan Primorac will occur on the 12th of January.

Lord Fakafanua was elected Tonga's new Prime Minister in a parliamentary vote yesterday, ousting incumbent 'Aisake Eke. He is a member of Tonga's nobility, and was previously Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He is the second member of the nobility to serve as PM since 2010.

Far-right candidate José Kast has won Chile's presidential election, defeating Jeannette Jara of the governing left-wing coalition. A Pinochet supporter, he ran a campaign on cracking down on rising violence, deporting thousands of immigrants and reviving Chile's economy.

Trump-backed conservative Nasry Asfura has defeated centre-right Salvador Nasralla in Honduras. The election occurred in November, but technical delays owing to the close result caused delays. Rixi Moncada of the governing left-wing coalition came a distant third.
