Delighted today to have sold a poster of my Arts & Crafts style map of the London Underground. Unlike many pastiches, the lettering is absolutely authentic, I derived this from an Edwardian photograph.

How could I have missed this anniversary? The splendid Kennedy North British Empire Exhibition map was published in 1924, 2024, therefore, marked the 100th anniversary of a geometric shape being used to show the lines on a rail map? Does anyone know of anything earlier?

Thanks to Martin Nöllenburg for trying to coax AI into creating a Paris Metro network map. The fact that he couldn't get anything coherent is a symptom of its fatal flaws. The current wave of AI is most impressive when entertainment is the objective rather than correctness.

What a difference sixteen years makes. My first decorative map was a celebration of Art Nouveau applied to the London Underground. This summer, I hope to complete an upgrade, featuring improved interchange tangles and my own design of authentic lettering based on period signage.
