What a glorious day at Swanage with Year 8 Geographers today studying Tourism and Coastal Resorts! We started from Durlston Country Park and walked down the Coastal path into town. We all had a great day, fantastic behaviour from students and tasty chips for lunch on the beach!

In April 1937, girl members of the Hitler Youth Movement attended an annual camp at Godshill near Fordingbridge in the New Forest. The event was to help promote Anglo-German friendship, with English girls attending the reverse trip in Germany.

Today our Y10 GCSE History students were learning about the Munich Putsch, careful planning to coincide with the 100th anniversary, or luck…?! The audience can decide 😆

State of Emergency: Iceland’s Department of Civil Protection has just ordered a mandatory evacuation of the city of Grindavík and the Svartsengi Power Station as a volcanic eruption appears imminent. Over 1,000 earthquakes reported over the past 24 hours.

The seismic activity map of Iceland right now is...jaw-dropping. These are quakes that have happened in just the last 6 hours. The Reykjanes Peninsula is smothered in thousands of small quakes and some mid-magnitude ones. That's what happens when rising magma breaks rocks.

This week in History, Year 9 have been doing some experiential learning by engaging with WWI artefacts. Students enjoyed exploring the uniforms, equipment and weapons used in WWI. They even got to try some WWI biscuit and bully beef that would have been eaten in the trenches

The sun is setting on another fantastic trip to Ypres, students were engaged and asked some excellent questions during the day. Now just the 8 hour return journey to get through 🤨

#OnThisDay in 1916, the Battle of the Somme began, as thousands of British Tommies went over the top into No Man's Land. 1 July 1916 set a brutal precedent for the First World War & remains the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army.
