Ms. Abby Carter took a group of students during this spring break on a math study abroad trip to Italy and Greece.

We had a colloquium Thursday featuring Dr. Phuong Hoang from Auburn University, who gave a fascinating talk on “Local time-stepping methods for the shallow water equations.”

Our 21st annual Pi Mu Epsilon induction ceremony took placed yesterday. Newly-inducted members are James Allen, Jackson Baker, Billie Byrd, Bayleigh Edberg, Jaycee Gebhard, and Grace Norris.

Congratulations to Dr. Vitaly Voloshin and Ms. Barbara Wolfe on their retirement at the end of this semester! Today we celebrated them and their dedication to TROY and their students. We will miss them but are happy for them and wish them the best!

Faculty meeting this morning. Our new faculty members are Drs. Janet Osaye and Haley Pavlis. Dr. Osaye comes from Alabama State University, and before that, a postdoc at Auburn, specializing in Graph Theory. Dr. Pavlis obtained her Ph. D. from Auburn, specializing in Topology.

First day of classes for the fall semester! We have many changes this year including the new Trojan Book Bag system in which all students get access to their course materials via Canvas by the first day of classes and which saves them money.

We are having our first of the year meeting tomorrow at 3:00 in room 226 MSCX. Faculty and returning students will welcome new math and math education students coming from IMPACT to discuss our Math Club opportunities and events for the fall semester. We'll have pizza!
