Earlier this week, I was doing some lawn work and noticed a passerby that saw my patrol car, slowed down, and quickly put on their seatbelt. Two things - 1) My patrol car is working even when I’m not. 2) Buckle up when you get in, not just when you see law enforcement.

Quick PSA. When you sell a vehicle, it is your responsibility to remove the license plates. (MCA 61-3-334). Spread the word. It’s very frustrating to investigate crashes, pursuits, abandoned vehicles, etc., when the vehicle was sold and still has old plates on it.

Responded to a head-on crash near mile marker 508 of I-90. No life-threatening injuries sustained. When approaching emergency vehicles, slow down. Your time is not more importanr than a person’s life.

We better see Sgt. Smith in a Mario costume or this will be a very disappointing day.

DOT is working on the road near the Garryowen exit of I-90. The work zone is about a mile long, which is not much of an inconvenience. Please slow down and watch for workers.

Snow is falling again in the Billings area. Visibility and temperature are both going down. Slow down and increase your following distance.

Last week, I stopped a 77-year-old who had never been pulled over before. Immediately after that, I stopped a 26-year-old who had been pulled over no less than 10 times. I feel like there is a lesson to be learned here.

1/2 Today, Sgt Beehler’s patrol car was struck by a passing semi. He was in the car, parked on the shoulder, and had emergency lights activated while he investigated a separate crash. He was transported to the hospital but has already been released. He suffered minor injuries.

2/2 The “Move Over” law exists to prevent these incidents. The driver of the semi did not slow down or move over soon enough. Fortunately, Sgt Beehler was able to make it home to his family. Please slow down. Please move over. Our lives literally depend on it.
