Today’s discussion showcased members’ position on cyber. Some indicated that this issue does not require UNSC’s attention if UN Cyber Crime Convention enters into force. Majority disagreed. Coexistence of treaties and UNSCRs against terrorism seems to support the latter position.

In addition to WG on rules, JPN has repeatedly held pen for Afghan file in #UNSC, i.e. 🇯🇵 has been drafter/coordinator for SC outcomes on Afghanistan. At the end of current term, 🇯🇵 succeeded in securing consensus on press statement today⬇️ I thank other members for cooperation🇺🇳

Discussion on AI under #UNGDC started yesterday. I said: multi-stakeholder cooperation should protect and empower individuals by minimizing risks and maximizing benefits. One of the greatest issues of our time. YN Harari’s NEXUS proved to be a useful read.

Today, JPN had a honor of becoming one of 4 vice-chairs of #UN Peacebuilding Commission. There is no veto in #PBC and it is firmly based on the principle of national ownership. These features are gradually making PBC a unique venue in #UN to discuss peace in a constructive manner

#UN peacekeeping operations seem to be at the crossroads now. UN’s ability to contribute to peace still largely depends on PKOs, we need to pursue their improvement rather than abandonment.
