A lot of nuts 6 kg ….. a little silage and what grass I can find is feeding the cows at the moment. Milking well at 2.27 kgms and hopefully a lot of them incalf at this stage.

Hard to believe we still need a lot more rain in these parts but I’m afraid we are not going to get it . Cows on 6 kgs silage 5 kg nuts and the rest grass . Farm cover around 500 with growth starting to recover . Production going okay staying over 2 kgms

Amazing to think we still haven’t got enough rain in North Kilkenny with growth rates in the thirties for over 5 weeks grass and fodder stocks are poor. Cows are milking well at 2.1 kgms but I decided to put the culls in on once a day milking to try an fatten them up .

With limited amounts of grass and lots of rain on the way it really has the feel of an early winter but that’s no surprise considering I’m feeding silage for 6 weeks at this stage. On the plus side production going nicely for the time of year at around 2 kgms

Eventually got around to restoring the old roadside farm wall .A local stonemason did the front and my 18 year old son did the back. 8 weeks of work and hopefully it will last a lifetime.

All cows are dried off and the holiday season can begin on farm . I found it a difficult farming year made easier by a good backend. Production was back but should still shade over 600 kgms Herd fertility was fine , my intention is to milk a few less cows next year

Unfortunately lost 2 cows today sometimes you do your best but they still find ways to die. Grass coming along nicely on the second round and production going well staying over the 2:65 kgms

Cows starting the second round of the farm tonight. Still getting some silage and 7 kilos of nuts a day in the parlour which they are struggling to eat these days. Production is good ,getting close to 2.8 kgms

Silage pitted on the 23 may … got rain to keep the grass growing… a few more repeats than I would like but acceptable… cows milking very well at 2.55 kgms . All in all so far so good for 2025

Feeding silage but hopefully a short term measure. Breeding season over and production going well at 2.37kgms. A few cases of mastitis in the last few weeks and a climbing cell count
