'Throughout Leadbeater’s campaign to force her Bill onto the statute book, we have had to become used to lots of underhanded tactics and misleading statements. 'Leadbeater has been helped in this regard by her Bill’s chief cheerleader, the campaigning group, Dignity in Dying.

Many people (including MPs) who are in favour of assisted suicide in principle are still very uncomfortable both with Kim Leadbeater MBE MP's Bill both in terms of the content but also the process. This CapX piece by Tom Hunt explains why.

The Holyrood Assisted Suicide Bill is more dangerous than the Westminster one. For example, its definition of terminal illness is much looser. MSPs shouldn’t risk it. Vote to end this Bill! John Lamont MP 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

🚨A convenient day to bury inconvenient news? The impact assessment for the assisted suicide Bill is set to be published just two weeks before it returns to the Commons & while MPs are distracted by the local elections. This is not the transparency the Bill requires.

Sad to see my Dad lose today by only 80 votes. It was one of those elections. Very proud of him. He continues to be an exceptional District councillor. Well done Paul Bristow on a fantastic victory. Bitter sweet.

NEW: As expected, the assisted dying impact assessment has been published two weeks out from the bill returning to the Commons...and just as a flood of local election results are declared. The government's assisted dying equality impact assessment focuses on the ability of people to *access* assisted dying. Not at the impact on vulnerable groups more likely to suffer wrongful deaths. Unbelievable given the parliamentary debate. It's completely unfit for purpose.

Wow. Listen to this. Labour’s Lucy Powell thinks it’s a ‘dog whistle’ to demand arrests and accountability for the rape gangs. What a disgusting betrayal of the victims. They are part of the cover up.

The disturbing implication is that Kim Leadbeater has taken a long hard look at the bill’s conscience protections... ...and doubled down on refusing *institutions*—hospices and care homes—any right to opt out.
