I recently had the honor to meet with Nez Perce Tribe Vice Chair Shannon Wheeler and witnessed the return of coho to Lapwai Creek. Deep admiration and respect for the Nez Perce Tribe's leadership. Elected leaders must heed the tribe's urgent call to remove the four lower Snake dams.

Dam removal on the Klamath River is underway thanks to decades of leadership by the river's tribes and Indigenous advocates. There are important lessons from the Klamath that we can carry to other river restoration efforts nationwide.

The majority of our nation’s dams are outdated. They were not built to withstand the storms and flooding we are seeing. Congress needs to prioritize public safety and approve dedicated funding for the regular upkeep, rehabilitation, and removal of dams. thehill.com/opinion/congre…

ā€œMany of the dams we built decades ago are not equipped to handle today’s extreme weather. In a lot of cases, aging dams and dams that are not adequately designed or maintained are ticking time bombs." - Dr. Ann Willis, CA director of American Rivers thehill.com/policy/equilib…

A win for wild rivers! Thank you Rep Ryan Zinke for introducing the Greater Yellowstone Recreation Enhancement and Tourism Act, which would protect nearly 100 miles of Montana's rivers under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
