Long overdue update on setting up a sustainable lab. First, THANK YOU to everyone who replied with suggestions! ❤️ all the enthusiasm for reducing lab waste! Thread on what I found, loosely organized from easy (low cost, low effort) to challenging to implement. 🧵(1/n)

Anyone have an explanation as to why this loon had tons of sand in its esophagus? Picked up alive on beach, brought to rehabber in RI, died that night then was frozen until necropsy. #sciencetwitter #AcademicChatter #ornithology

Hey, #microplastic folks! How would you characterize/quantify these plastic particles? Fiber bundles? This common loon was found beached in coastal RI, died in rehab facility next day. Fishing jig containing lead found in proventriculus on necropsy.
