The season of fright is here, & all around us are images of commonly feared animals — bats, the howling lone wolf, but just how scary are they? Join us tomorrow as we separate fact from fiction & navigate the power of peoples’ perception. Sign up here: bit.ly/3jYNot1

Snow last night made an unexpected winter wonderland for fieldwork this morning. Followed by a progressively greener and wetter drive back to Toronto its traffic: couldn’t help feeling we were going the wrong way…

Your The Toronto Zoo's Native Bat Conservation Program in the news with my colleague Melissa explaining where the #bats of #Scarborough spend the winter! thestar.com/local-toronto-…

Thinking of grad school and want to work with the incredible Christina Davy and your The Toronto Zoo (and me!) to bring conservation science to Ontario's bats? Here is a fully funded chance to do just that!

Still a few days left to apply for an amazing MSc with The Toronto Zoo and Christina Davy. Study #bats, #acousticmonitoring #radiotelemetry and contribute to species conservation. It's going to be a good time!

I spent the better part of Friday's work day cleaning graffiti like this off several trees on an NatureConservancy.ca | Conservationdelanature.ca nature reserve. Maple trees have been around for millions of yrs. This one is well over 100 yrs old. Maybe 200 or even 300 yrs old. They deserve more respect than this.

As we head into spring and the temperatures climb, we will soon be seeing bats around Ontario again. For female bats, spring is a busy time when they must return from their various overwintering grounds to find their summer homes: facebook.com/TheTorontoZoo/… 🦇 #InternationalBatDay

There are lots of different ways to celebrate #InternationalBatDay, but for the bat conservation team at your Toronto Zoo, this time of year means getting ready for another season of monitoring and research on our local wild bats! 🦇facebook.com/TheTorontoZoo/…

Excited that The Toronto Zoo's bat program gets a mention this Thursday when Melissa Mayhew from NWMOCanada is presenting to the International Association of Impact Assessment #iaia22. "Biodiversity assessment is a team sport", and I appreciate this novel collaboration.

We are nearing the busiest time for spotting turtles on the roads in Ontario 🐢 Watch to learn what to do if you see a turtle on a road and are in a position to help: youtu.be/rBJd1y6wCAk

The Trent River near Ontario Parks Ferris PP at dawn yesterday. In the middle of a challenging field season, in a challenging year, in a challenging decade (so far!) a couple of nights in the forest with my phone off was good.

It was wonderful you have you along Christina Davy, and thanks for all your help! Some great bats this week, I also can’t wait to see what they can tell us. We are going to do so much science on these bats!

Last week I had the pleasure to join the The Toronto Zoo bat 🦇 team during their field work! This team is passionate about conserving bat species in Ontario, specifically in Glen Rouge National Park 🌳. There is no shortage of hard work or fun when with them!
