Schools with a healthy culture don’t avoid conflict; they embrace it. Productive conflict: I’m confident I’m right, but I know I don’t have a monopoly on correctness. I’m happy to hear your viewpoint. Destructive conflict: I’m right & I’m not interested in hearing your opinion.

Check out our CES Podcast. This month is a quick 5 min listen. I’d love feedback to know what you think we could add that would be useful for parents to know each month. #cpchat #ktifamily #edleaders youtube.com/watch?v=Ri4eVO… or podcasts.hempfieldsd.org/podcastgen/ces…

A1: We make sure to set them up with great mentors. Check in with them often to find out what they need. Show them that you care about their success and provide them with what they need. #ELMagChat

A2: Le them know that it’s ok to leave work at work. Sometimes they just need someone to tell them that. We also have wellness activities through a district wide committee that provides opportunities for teachers to take part in activities (kayaking, hiking, etc.) #ELMagChat

Q3 - Sometimes new teachers want to be in charge of what’s happening in the classroom. Let the students drive your instruction. Also, don’t forget about the social/emotional needs of students — need to be met before learning can occur #ELMagChat

Q4 - Get to know students’ families. At the beginning of the year, encourage them to write to you about their child - 300 words or less - to fill you in about the things you need to know about their child and family. #ELMagChat

Q5 - Try to build relationships with students by meeting with them when they are having a great day - not just rough ones. Show them you care by listening about what they have going on in their lives. #ELMagChat

Thank you Rep. Miller for visiting our 4th graders before their trip to Harrisburg next week. Students voted on a house bill to determine Pennsylvania's state cookie. The winner: chocolate chip! Hempfield SD

Today I had a teacher handle a delicate student situation with great discretion and compassion. I was so grateful for her at that moment. I appreciate it when teachers realize there are some things that actually trump the lesson. #MaslowBeforeBloom
