As Pakistan deports undocumented Afghans, I am worried about the children who face abuse, exploitation, & violence. Their future in Afghanistan, which many have never seen and where almost 30M need aid, is grim. Vulnerable Afghans must not be returned to unsafe conditions.

Pakistan has generously hosted Afghan refugees for decades. But as winter nears, thousands of Afghan families are being deported to face an uncertain future in Afghanistan, where a humanitarian crisis has been unfolding since 2021. unhcr.org/news/unhcr-con…

I am most concerned about Afghan women and children, who need protection and critical aid including shelter, water, healthcare, and nutrition. It is essential to ensure that their return home is safe and dignified.

Catastrophic flooding in Afghanistan is among climate emergencies that have been destroying lives around the world. Disasters like this will only become more common. The #ClimateCrisis not only triggers new displacements, but also makes life harder for displaced people.
