Fantastic! Our UTC in E.London sets a first week task to its 14 yr olds of producing an artefact with similar equipment. You are ahead of the game. I'm still at the crayon stage!

We were delighted so many of our schools tuned in today with our YouTube primary Leavers Service and sent us video clips to share . cdbe.org.uk/schools/collec…

The boring psephologist in me is intrigued by the almost 30% swing to the Greens in my ECC division to unseat the sitting Tory and give Essex its only Green councillor (glad to know my tactical vote was not wasted!). My good friend who lives in Hartlepool is not happy today!

Results abound! Morecambe FC are in the L2 playoffs (still Div Four to my mind), just off automatic promotion. As a child we often went to M’cmbe. Who could forget the only match I attended : a dull 1:1 draw against Bacup in the old Northern Premier League? Such thrilling days!!

"What we needed was a big, ambitious plan for education. Instead, a rumoured behind-the-scenes battle has been decisively won by the Treasury. The result is a recovery plan that is depressingly, but predictably, lacking in ambition": my comments ASCL: buff.ly/3wV1aRn

The mantra is ‘no child will be left behind’ but whole amount of education catch-up funding in England announced so far amounts to just £310 per pupil over the next three years, compared to £1,600 in the United States and a whopping £2,500 in the Netherlands!

My wife was on the late train from London to Kemble last night when this bloke got on with a big old fashioned lamp and plugged it in. I approve.

I step down as Diocesan Director of Education in Chelmsford on Monday after 9 years. Just calculated that I was a DDE for the tenure of 13 Education Secs of State! Time for a break!
