As well as bathing and playing in water, #tigers are also surprisingly strong swimmers, with adults known to cross rivers several kilometres or more wide and swim many kilometres in a day! 🐅 #tigertime #savethetiger 📷 TigersintheForest tigersintheforest.co.uk

#Tiger’s eyes have round pupils, unlike the distinctive vertical-slit pupils of domestic cats. Vertical-slit pupils are most common in predators who hunt at night. Tigers however hunt primarily in the morning and evening. 🐅 #tigertime #savethetiger 📷 Craig Jones

Since this photo was taken in 2004, three of the #tigers have been poached with the fourth dying more recently under suspicious circumstances - DSWF's #TigerTime campaign is working to protect tigers and stop this ongoing slaughter. 🐅 #savethetiger 📷 TigersintheForest

Today we celebrate #InternationalTigerDay! Sadly just 3,500 of these magnificent big cats are left in the wild. David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's #TigerTime campaign is working to protect them - you can help by 'adopting' a tiger from just £32! davidshepherd.org/help-us/adopt/…

Much like the rough tongue of the domestic cat, a tiger’s tongue has a coarse, sandpaper-like texture with many sharp barbs. This helps the #tiger to groom itself and lick the fur off of its prey. 🐅 #tigertime #savethetiger 📷 TigersintheForest tigersintheforest.co.uk

#Tiger cubs are born helpless & blind –often in caves, rocky crevices or hidden long grass. Youngsters are totally dependent on their mother for protection & food. They quickly grow & after c.15 months the cubs leave their family to find their own territories 🐅📸 Suzi Eszterhas

A collaborative team of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation experts are in Sochi, Russia for the 70th CITES Standing Committee. They join some 700 delegates from around the world to discuss crucial wildlife conservation issues. #Tigers on the agenda.

Over 15k people attended this year's Tiger Day Festival in Russia's Vladivostok! Supported by #DSWF through project partners Phoenix Fund, the event raises awareness of #tiger #conservation. Its parade unit commemorated ecologists & scientists who've helped save the Amur tiger.

To our supporters: together we've fought to protect wild tigers, thank you. We still have a way to go with #tiger populations remaining close to extinction, so we’ve been working with experts to reinvigorate David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's #TigerTime & can now announce our #relaunch coming soon!
