"TigerBeetle exhibits a refreshing dedication to correctness." Props to the TigerBeetle team for the Jepsen test! Huge fan of y'all and your dedication to doing things right. Check out the Jepsen project if you want to level up as a systems nerd.

For a decade, I’ve admired the storage fault work of Remzi & Andrea Arpaci-Dusseau, Ram Alagappan & Aishwarya Ganesan. I dreamed of the day a DBMS would put it into practice. Yesterday, with our Jepsen report, this dream came true, with TigerBeetle surviving helical corruption.

Helical fault-tolerance goes beyond what protocols such as Paxos or Raft withstand. It required not only standing on the shoulders of the storage fault work of UW-Madison, but also our team augmenting both VSR and PAR with a novel hashchain repair protocol over the commit log.

For an overview of these techniques, including that extra TigerBeetle step of helical fault-tolerance through near-byzantine hash-chaining, see our talk given at Systems Distributed in NYC last year. youtu.be/tRgvaqpQPwE

Time to make myself a wannabe database "expert" with the TigerBeetle jepsen report (it sadly didn't rain Joran Dirk Greef but promises are to be kept šŸ¤) Maybe I can make a blog article out of it too if I find a cool tangent.

What do programming models, protocols, and surviving the zombie apocalypse have in common?! More than you'd think. Find out next week in my talk Designing Distributed Protocols at Resonate HQ Only at Systems Distributed '25 x.com/TigerBeetleDB/…

Huge milestone for the Zig team: the self-hosted (no LLVM) x86_64 backend is the default for debug builds! I'm an aarch64 user so I have to wait a bit more. :) But the amount of effort Zig puts into DX can't be overstated. ziglang.org/devlog/2025/?u…
