This week I visited the ESS in Lund (Sweden). A similar facility was planned in Austria 30 years ago under the name AUSTRON. Most of it was never realized, except for the small medical part, which is now the ion therapy center #MedAustron.

This picture was actually taken in our cleanroom at @HEPHY3 of Austrian Academy of Sciences . The silicon strip sensors we initially designed are now being tested, before they are gonna assembled into modules and larger structures.
