I'd live inside myself doing the same things I do now in spite of the fact of being a prisoner in the dark because inside people is darknes

Blind Owl is perfect. Captures a state of nightmare as if it were written by one. In league with Dazai, Kafka, Dostoevsky, Ligotti, Molinard, Evenson, Dávila, NDiaye, Donoso.

I’ve moved on from Marie NDiaye’s early novels of vague identities and emotions to a later stage where the incessant need to pin down and examine reality only serves to better emphasize its illusory nature. One of my most treasured writers working today.

Another banger from Charco Press. Also, the inclusion of Gil’s social media posts alongside the primary text is such an effective marriage of the contemporary writer’s two primary outlets. Could easily be done poorly, but here it elevates the text and brings it into the world.

Been anticipating Lili is Crying all year. Hoping to have more Hélène Bessette brought to us by Kate Briggs’ expert pen. This is to be read in a summer heat.

Been slowly reading through the Black Star Books and Head of Zeus reprint of the Heinemann African Writers series, my latest being Kole Omotoso’s The Edifice. A biting Nigerian novel of assimilation and hypocrisy. For those who appreciate Dambudzo Marechera and Ama Ata Aidoo.
