Now that #SickleCell awareness month is ending, it’s time to move on to #SickleCell action month and #SickleCell innovation month and #SickleCell equity month until our health care system is as invested every day of every month as they are in every other disease.

Thank you to Eric Boodman and @LydiaPecker for casting light on this great shame. Yet another example of the intrinsic racism without our health care system.

I gotta hand it to my medical team at MGH. While I was not in a good place this was the first time I've had doctors and nurses fully locked in on my specific needs being a SCD patient. I didn't feel ashamed for asking for stronger painkillers, or having to explain 20-(1/2)

One of our #SickleCell #warriors had been deported to Rwanda where his disease exploded with severe consequences. Deep gratitude to Rep. Stephen F. Lynch and his office for helping us bring him back to the US for treatment. Advocacy and political partnership in medicine is essential.

A great day for the National Academy and a great day for medicine. Joseph Betancourt deserves all of this and more for his contributions to the health and well being of the community.

It’s #ElectionDay and the single most important act of advocacy any of us can take is to #Vote For the sake of my family, for the sake of our #Warriors and for the sake of our future, I’ve voted for #KamalaHarris and #TimWalz Real change is in our hands.

Today we need to mourn so that tomorrow we can go back to do the work. It becomes even more dangerous tomorrow. It becomes even more risky tomorrow. But it also becomes even more necessary tomorrow. We mourn today so tomorrow we can take up our shovels and tend the land ourselves

Public service announcement to those that need to hear it: our #SickleCell patients will not be moved around like pieces on a chess board. The resources for our #Warriors are not expendable. The best time to come for them is never. And it sure as hell isn’t this week.

“Thank you for your cooperation” has been a term of oppression throughout history. Let me be clear to those who need to hear it within the powers that be: I am not cooperating. I am acquiescing to a mandate over which I have no control, preserving for the next fight tomorrow #SCD

Let’s add our #Warriors caregivers, providers, advocates, and leaders as we grow the #SickleCell community across the sky bridge. go.bsky.app/Gf3JzR

My #SickleCell patient this morning tearfully begged me, “Please please don’t let Trump deport me. If I go back home, I’ll die.” This is going to be what the next four years are like. But our Center will use every resource we have to fight for our #Warriors

I check back in to confirm that this app is a dumpster fire feeding Elon’s data monster. Please dear #SickleCell community—join Blue sky! Med Twitter is making the migration!

On this day, we attended to the arc of the moral universe. Thank you Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association for putting on an extraordinary event honoring the legacy of Dr. King through the stories of our #SickleCell warriors.
