"Cultural impact" is an unreliable metric for evaluating the quality of art. And a lot of people clearly think it means they, personally, reference the thing in their family group text. Good taste remains king.

I don’t think it’s that complex. Older movies just had inherently understandable premises. I see the poster on the left and think “A movie about toys who come to life. Ha! That’s whacky. Kids will love it.” I see the poster on the right and I can’t tell you anything about it.

Don't be scared of the subject matter! Origin stories are tired, yes, but it's just good narrative hygiene to include information relevant to the story in the story being told.
