Anfield has massive aura: LFC will stay strong. The Kop is deep, the Sir Kenny and “the Annie” now 2 tiers, with the main stand kinda 3 tiers, so high and deep. Many opponents will wilt at the wall of noise around them. Our atmosphere is too anxious and nice. We need to step up.

More Liverpool thoughts: I know the city pretty well, but if you visit try to make time for the waterfront. Pier head. The Three Graces: Liver Building, Cunard & Port of Liverpool buildings are beautiful, especially on a clear day. (And you’re never far from some Beatles action).

Liver Building: I had no idea but you can do a 360 tour. You go right up to the clock and inside it (bigger face than Big Ben). Views up close and far are great. 1 liver bird ‘Bella’ looks out to sea, to protect vessels, the other ‘Bertie’ looks to town for a pub!

Everton will become formidable. Their new ground (2 mile walk from Lime St) is close enough to landmarks (1 1/4m from Liver Building) to be ‘city centre’. Lots of walk signage in town now, it’s closer than Anfield. Red bricks not Evertonian but match dock warehouses and heritage.

Anfield’s new main stand upper is ‘wow’. Built behind the lower tier it’s way deeper and spacious than most concourses. The Emirates is great but this has escalators up and down (take note Newcastle), wide kiosks, great food and the outer red part is windows with cityscape views.

Ange was bound to be dumped by Spurs given their shocking PL season, but Thomas Frank? Some managers suit 1 club. Frank suits Brentford and vice-versa. Not sure he translates elsewhere. They need someone who can rebuild that squad and cope with a demanding CL campaign. Good luck.

Springsteen: wouldn’t surprise me if Paul McCartney joined Bruce at Anfield tonight, likely for ‘Twist & Shout’ in the encore. Bruce met Paul at LIPA this week and the E Street Band visited Forthlin Rd, Paul’s boyhood home. (Our coach guide said, the manager is his mate 🤷🏻‍♂️).

And there you go! Sir Paul McCartney did join Bruce on stage tonight at Anfield. (Bit gutted I missed that, but it feels like I saw it as a merged part of my overall trip this week. I know what it will have looked and felt like, so that'll do me). liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/whats…

We were sat high up on the other side, middle of the main stand upper. Would've been great to see Bruce introduce Macca - "a new young local talent" - the crowd must have been so elated. Legendary talents and timeless music to last lifetimes.

Saw bits of England's game: paradox central. Players a bit unfit and want to be on holiday, can't really be bothered, yet some will be off to the dopey CWC for up to a month! Tommy Tickle gets his 3 points but his aim is stark: I'm here to win you the World Cup! Get bothered!

thatsimonrose feel with internationals theres an argument to not pick the players that are stars for their club all the time. as a Gooner am glad saka didn't play, rice had limited time and MLS was unused. but from the perspective of "an england fan" its understandable to want more.

Fancied Gauff to beat Sabalenka. Gauff is tidy and consistent, a battler. Sabalenka is strong and overpowers most opponents, but undermine her power and she'll get rattled, overdo the power, push shots long or wide and turn on herself with tantrums and emotion. Then you've won.

Sinner is control and consistency, Alcaraz is vibe and chaos. Sinner a concert pianist, Alcaraz a rock guitarist. Sinner bores me, Alcaraz excites. Sinner might grind another Slam - yawn - but if the wind whips up again, it could unsettle Sinner and suit Alcaraz to embrace chaos.

Alcaraz v Sinner was epic but no surprise. As I’ve said many times, modern tennis is so intense, athletic and gladiatorial, it’s almost unrecognisable from even 10 years ago. Players reach lost causes and return unreturnable shots. I’ll be at the Queen’s women’s finals on Sunday.

Thomas Frank: odd why Spurs are so keen. He’s done great at Brentford but many coaches fit 1 club and fail elsewhere. Spurs need a better squad to cope with the PL & demanding CL. Not sure Frank’s the answer, so crack on! May not last the season and then end up back at Brentford.

These England matches have been zero surprise. Patchwork XIs and players want to be on holiday. Such matches are futile. Kyle Walker? Seriously. It was obvious to me at least a year ago that he was cooked: then it slowly became stark. Recovery pace? He shouldn’t need to recover!

thatsimonrose (@thatsimonrose) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Tommy Tickle will be ruthless. He’s a man in a hurry. He’s here to win England a World Cup. There will be omissions and they may be shock omissions. Kyle Walker has 96 caps? That’s far too many and where it should end for him. Toney largely ignored yet again and looked furious.

IF Zubimendi will cost £59m I don’t want to hear a single word about Gyokeres, Sesko or any other striker being “too expensive” or “keeping our powder dry”. Our powder is so dry Guy Fawkes would be interested. We haven’t even replaced Aubameyang or Lacazette. Don’t screw this up.

Sunderland will barely pass Derby’s 9-point record, if at all. Burnley are dull and will be deep in the mix. Leeds can survive with will, grit and just enough quality. Brentford and Wolves may deflate badly, with players and/or coaches leaving and shock many to go down too.
