This is going to be long. Its time to bring all of my thoughts about Covid and the governments response to it, into one thread. Because separately they may seem conflicting. So bear with me. I write this as a human being, a mum, a relative of older/sick people I love and as a GP.

I prosecute and defend the most dangerous criminals. I speak daily with victims of crime. And I can tell you that there has never been as good a time to be a criminal as under Boris Johnson’s government.

The sooner we all get used to the fact that Covid isn’t going anywhere and a vaccine is years away (if ever), and we need to make our lives work around it, the better. We can’t keep locking down, it’s crazy.

The virus is no longer the problem; this government and the way they are dealing with it is the problem.

So sickening to see all the ‘socially distanced’ spaces in too many empty bars and restaurants. Staff and business owners trying their best by blindly following the stupid new rules. Destroying jobs, devastating livelihoods. Saving nobody. Anyone at risk should stay home.

Jonathan Downey The supermarkets are once again the winners. Smaller brands, which rely on the on trade to build awareness and loyalty will die, independent venues will die, misguided, misinformed and driven by fear merchants and doom mongers.

Some of the media are trying their very best to stir things up. Buy all the toilet roll you like - but there’s no product shortages and certainly no need for panic buying.

The number of professors and other commentators on TV and here who think a 10pm curfew is just one hour less. It’s much more significant than that. Most UK pubs, bars and restaurants are licensed to midnight. Many until much later. The level of meh and ignorance is astonishing.

Fully support this guy. Lockdown is useless and destructive.

Legal or not, Hackney Council couldn’t care less. They’ll keep spouting the same rubbish about ‘immediate change’ and making up things to blame the gridlock on, such as ‘a skip’ or ‘traffic lights’.

Can we please have a statistic from 2020 to back up this car ownership claim rather than one from 2011, please? Ta.
