On this day in 1981, Soft Cell hit No.1 on the UK singles chart with their version of "Tainted Love," originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964. Jones, who later became Marc Bolan's girlfriend, was driving the car in the crash that tragically took Bolan’s life in 1977.
