Field-inspired analog models feed our geological imagination in the Tectonic Laboratory in Prague (IGCAS). We model Orogens, Salt tectonics, and Magma flow.

Last week I visited colleagues from the Czech Academy of Sciences Institute of Geophysics in Prague to present my work on tectonic modelling and natural H2 at GFZ. It was great to meet the researchers, and to have a look at the Waxy Earth Lab in Prague headed by Prokop Zavada😃 (1/5)

Prokop Zavada and his colleagues at @tectolabpraguehave have developed various cool devices for the simulation of tectonic processes. For instance, they use gelatin and a shear-box to study strike-slip fault evolution, where faults are highlighted through polarised light. (2/5)

I was impressed by the potential Waxy Earth Lab in Prague has for excellent research. We are currently setting up a collaboration, and if you are also interested in running tectonic models in Prague, you should definitely get in touch with them. More info: ig.cas.cz/en/observatori… (4/5).

And of course, we made sure to head down-town to enjoy the local food & drink 😃. Many thanks to David Uličný, Prokop Zavada & Ondřej Krýza for inviting me to Prague, and thanks to the researchers of the Czech Academy of Sciences Institute of Geophysics for their kind hospitality! 😃 (5/5)

📢Abstracts for #EGU24 - just few days left.📢 Check out our salty session: “Salt-related deformation: from a microtectonic to a regional perspective” meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU24/session/… Dan Tamas Pablo Granado Prokop Zavada Marta Adamuszek European Geosciences Union

We had a great X-ray CT scanning session with Prof. Guido Schreurs and Frank Zwaan at Universität Bern last week. Paraffine-wax multilayers are perfect crustal scale analogs, as their rheology is strongly thermally dependent.

The 1st VIPS meeting on volcanic plumbing systems was a great thematical event with three workshops and great talks! Got the chance to present as an invited speaker the current volcanotectonic activity of Reykjanes. IAVCEI_VIPSCommission MAGMA Lab Liverpool IAVCEI
