On Thursday night, we held the last induction ceremony for NHS that I will do at Pat Taylor Academy. Yes, it’s a bit sad because I love working with the honor society kids, but I will not miss all the work it takes to make it happen. Retirement is 20 school days away.

Seven more school days until retirement. Then I get this: one of my students select me as a Coke Distinguished Educator. She had me in tears!💙

It’s been a ride—these past 41.5 years in the field of education. I started off in a kindergarten classroom and moved next to pre-k and finally found my home in a school library. After tomorrow, I will be retired. The pics show me at the start of my career and at the end.

And just like that, my time at Pat Taylor Academy is done. Today, I turned in my keys, put the last of my things in the car, and said goodbye to the library that I created from scratch. Looking forward to what will come next.

Students should be able to see themselves when they look for books in the library. A library is for everyone and censorship makes it impossible for all to be represented.

Once I began kindergarten there haven't been many years that I didn't begin a new school year. I won't be starting back to school tomorrow but many of my teacher friends in Louisiana will be back at school. I wish all of you well and will be thinking about you! ❤️ #backtoschool

This is the most ludicrous law. We need to be putting books into the hands of our children, not take them away. Books can teach our kids how to have empathy and understanding for people not like them. We need books to build a more peaceful world.

I just finished reading #genderqueer in honor of #BannedBooksWeek. I don’t think this book is for everyone, but older teens who want to read this book should have access to it in their library. Choice in what we read is critical to building readers who are thinkers.

I so loved watching the Youth Media Awards today. My #TBR pile just got a tad higher. Thanks to NOLA Public Library for having so many of the winning titles available digitally. #Libraries for the win!!

Thank you, NOLA Public Library!!! Today I wanted to read an old article from #TheNewYorker Magazine, but I had read my free article. You had my back, I used the Flipster app to find the issue I wanted read. #librariesrock #weneedlibraries #ilovelibraries

We spent a week driving this bright red Jeep Wrangler around Wisconsin. Thank you @expedia for finding us the very last car in Milwaukee on July 23rd at @hertz. You saved our vacation!!! Without the car we could not have followed the itinerary that I so carefully planned.
