The first film in our summer movie series, A Place in the Sun (1951), was a critically acclaimed hit – Charlie Chaplin called it “the greatest movie ever made about America,” and it received six Academy Awards (and nine nominations).

Working from such a young age, Elizabeth had to grow up fast. But on set of National Velvet, she got to experience pure freedom when riding “The Pie,” Velvet Brown’s horse in the film. This horse, named King Charles, was gifted to Elizabeth by the studio following the shoot.
