Looking back at my journal entries April of last year, and how hopeful I was that this would only last a few days, it breaks my heart.

I’m tired of us having to do advocacy work for Sudan. I’m tired of us turning into journalists and advocates and speakers. I just want us to experience a peaceful and free Sudan. I just want us to be able to go back home.

Darfur breaks my heart.

When all this is over, what’s left of Sudan?

I’m tired of Sudanese people having to be resilient. We’re tired. We’re heartbroken.

It physically hurts to look at old photos of our house in Omdurman.

I’ve become so afraid of opening my DMs and seeing the heartbreaking situations our people are facing. How much fundraising can we do as a community? How much ‘raising awareness?’

If I write poetry about our pain, will people finally listen? If I make pretty infographics, will people finally look?
