Tape letters were messages recorded on cassette sent between loved ones in the UK and Pakistan between the 60s and 80s The Tape Letters project is now archiving cassettes in Scotland as an important time capsule of South Asian migratory experience ▶️ bbc.in/4gMkPKX

This unique project started when Wajid Yaseen, Founder of Modus Arts & Tape Letters Scotland found audio cassettes of his fathers 'Naats'(religious songs) & family tapes as a mode of communication by many #Pakistani families. Many stories of others are held in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 & 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 archives

🎙️ “Dad used to turn the cassette player on ... he’d bang on the mic saying “testing, testing”. It was just such an exciting thing preparing to record something! He’d explain to us that it was a message for family back home in Pakistan.” 🦋 @greatergovanhill.com on BlueSky 🦋 greatergovanhill.com/latest/scottis…
