At this point in the season (roughly 30% of the games played), which of these metrics do you consider the most in evaluating the *current season-to-date* performance of a pitcher?

Y2Y correlation of walk rate is essentially 0 But in-season correlation of walk rate is r=0.8 In addition, walk rate in Mar/Apr is almost always higher than in rest-of-season In other words: walk rate is cost of doing business, and we learn those conditions early in the season

We won (no pun intended)! The turning point was right at 2009 (Greinke citing FIP) and 2010 (Felix winning with 13-12 record) Soon enough, the W-L record will be relegated to the dustbin of history. It'll be buried once deGrom makes the HOF with fewer wins than Johan

From 1997-2000, Pedro had: 38 WAR, 30 WAA (Reference) 35 WAR, 27 WAA (Fangraphs) The gray-area HOF line for pitchers is a 25-30 WAA If Pedro ONLY pitches in 1997-2000 (has no career before, and no career after this time period), would you put him in the Hall of Fame?

In three seasons from 1970-72, Bobby Orr got three Hart (MVP), two Conn Smythe (Stanley Cup), 1 Art Ross (scoring leader... as defender!), 3 Norris (defender), totaled +261 in plus/minus (next highest was Espo at +149) Had he ONLY played THESE 3 seasons would you put him in HOF?

If your going to use "vertical tilt of the swing path" metric, but do NOT want to use that term for whatever reason, you want to use one or more of: - swing - path - vertical - tilt - plane - incline Using "Vertical Bat Angle" is a misnomer and in no way conveys swing path

No matter where you freeze this swing, whether on the backswing or follow-thru or contact, etc, the swing path is tilted by 33 degrees Vertical Bat Angle will also show 33 degrees thruout, but does its name actually reflect that? I say: nope.

I'll ignore all the player selections and just zero in on this writing device This is essentially the opinion of Jayson Stark disguised as being some representative opinion. I have zero doubt that at least one human scout out there would say something glowing about Posey, Mauer
