I love these economically illiterate libertarians Cycling "subsidies" have a better ROI than the much larger subsidies for driving (which do not R on the I, & are a net cost) Excited for a reply in which David moves the goalposts & says it's about freedom or moving fridges

No. Sadly, it will not be the end. The circular economy in fashion will not work. It's a fundamentally unsound concept and it's a terrible shame everyone's bought into the hype and nonsense. vogue.com/article/could-…

This is the beginning of the end for autonomous vehicles. Freight is the big market for autonomous vehicles, where the big savings are, and it's being shelved. (Trains are better, though) arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/0…

Quick reminder that the UK govt has been promising carbon capture & storage (CCS) for more than *checks notes* TWENTY YEARS. Here's what 2003 Energy White Paper said: "We will therefore set up an urgent implementation plan...This study will reach conclusions within six months"

Well I didn't see that coming: that the next election is going to be about the Tories staking out claims for more oil, cars going faster, dirty cars carrying on pumping out fumes in cities, killing people...And the mandate for this is: 'we hung on in Uxbridge'? Is that it?

As extreme climate events multiply, people in the West are becoming more and more resistant to climate action. Depressing but not unpredictable. washingtonpost.com/world/2023/07/…

“Oxford Street disorder: Braverman wants culprits hunted down”. My take: Invest in public swimming pools, well run youth clubs, community centres, mental health programmes, summer activities. Care for youth. Cost of inaction greater than cost of action. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…

“Experts have been sounding the alarm that the far-right are exploiting climate change and natural disasters.” Ecofascism is on the rise & didn’t suddenly arrive on the scene, there’s a long history behind it. Understanding those connections is important vice.com/en/article/88x…

Great thread about how logging-industry-approved tree planting programs in Canada are largely the cause of the out of control wildfires we're now seeing. A tree farm is not a forest.

Single pane windows are terrible insulators As I live in a conservation area, the Council has rules saying I can't have appropriate double glazed windows But that's not going to stop me from putting them in I'll be pushing hard to change this pointless & harmful policy
