The children have passed out finally en route to Hotel. Before we left Airport the 5YO rode the escalator up then around down for 5 minutes. I can confirm the Cerveza Presidente is cold and refreshing. 1 down. Many to go.

We’ve been in the hotel for maybe an hour. I give us maybe 20 more minutes before we attract the managers attention. Bringing a beach ball to a nice hotel was a bad idea.

So our 5YO refused physically and emotionally to get into our Uber that is a baby Fiat. I get it. Also frustrating as hell. 2nd uber that showed up was the same thing. Got in. Prayers up Fam.

Day 1 - DR. 5YO has been a champ all day. Feeding pigeons. Looking at old Churches. Walking the streets of colonial Santo Domingo. The 7YO has been the opposite. He was not ready to leave hotel. Doesn’t understand that why his mom is speaking Spanish. It’s been a struggle.

However as time turns we have embraced our cultural experience. Hour 4. Light years better than hour 1. We might just make it out alive.

Any country that offers Beer and espresso 24 hours a day is a proper country IMO.

We jiust visited my BIL okd school in DR. No way anyone far ever brought a Garth Brooks koozie into the school. God bless.

Time for a check in after a few days in Santo Domingo. Today we partake on a 3 hour journey to Punta Cana after family and cultural time. Very interested (scared) to see how 6 kids do on a bus for 3 hours to the resort. Prayers up.

Things the kids have enjoyed: iPads, boxed chocolate milk, pool (sometimes), pizza, tiny dogs (shoutout Ola). Things they have not enjoyed - Empanadas, Loud noises, traffic, not understanding Spanish, walking, heat, humidity.

Family vacation performance: Mom - A. Rockstar. Holding the group together. Leader. Dad - B- adequate performance. First in, last out. 7YO - C. Prefers hotel room. Avoiding food. Has his moments. 5YO - B. Temperamental but performing above expectations.

Been waiting on bus to take all 12 of us to Punta Cana. 45 minutes late. Love Latin time. Shocked that the bus is actually big enough to fit us all. 100% expected it to be like a RAV4

Bus was a 10/10 compared to what I expected to happen. Had an amazing lunch at a rest stop in DR. The minute I saw the place I knew it was might be the best meal of the trip. Never count out highway stops in Latin America.
