There is a long history of using "pedophilia" and "grooming" as weaponised terms against the LGBTQIA community. This locates the threat to children outside of home, instead of protecting them where they are at most risk, writes timothy willem jones (La Trobe University). bit.ly/458HUlm

#OnThisDay in 918 Aethelflaed, "Lady of the Mercians", died. The eldest daughter of Alfred the Great, she ruled Mercia in her own right - highly unusual for the time. She was a competent general, expanding Mercian territories, fortifying towns, and capturing Derby from the Danes.

Love this article. Let's let go of the old cliches that there was no such thing as childhood in Europe during the Middle Ages, that parents didn't love their children because many of them died, and that people were always dirty and didn't wash.

'To sneeze' comes from Old English 'fnēosan'. Why doesn't it start with an f anymore? As the cluster fn- was extremely uncommon, people started to replace it with the common cluster sn- in Middle English: 'fnēsen' became 'snēsen', which is now 'to sneeze'. Here's more: 1/

Imagine being a tax payer funded cultural institution, one that houses wisdom and art and history inside its walls, and being terrified that young poets and writers are condemning genocide. Fucking *****pathetic***** State Library Vic
